Paranormal Activity 2 : First Thoughts

I was a total sucker for the first film. When I began hearing about in early 2009, I was hooked. As a huge Blair Witch Project fan, I couldn't wait to hear more about this new mock-umentary film. I voted to have it released theatrically, and was there eagerly waiting in line for the first showing in my hometown.

Now, with a (very inevitable) sequel, I have to admit that I'm still incredibly excited to see what might happen next. I found the original one of the scariest films I have seen in years; now the bar has been raised.

Some analysts online have claimed that they hear someone mentioning the name "Hunter" in the trailer. I hear nothing, but will definately give it another look; I'm also a sucker for interactive movie-going experiences ie, The Dark Knight (Rory's Death Kiss), Cloverfield, and Super 8 (scariest thing i ever saw). Hoping to have some fun with this one, too.

Watchmen : The Movie - Take Two

Now there is this huge controversy over the Watchmen movie. Grand.

Fox claims that some twenty years ago, they gained the rights to film and distribute Watchmen. The man who was working for Fox at the time, Larry Gordon, bought the rights himself and not in the name of Fox. 20th Century still insists that Warner Bros. has no legal rights to distribute the film, and the whole thing is being taken to court.

Rumor is, Warner Bros. has repeatedly offered settlements to 20th Century Fox to gain complete rights to the film, but Fox claims that it isn't about the money (I know in my heart of hearts that that is completely bogus, ie: everything Fox has ever done).

I'm sure that before the release of the film next spring or early summer, everything will be taken care, especially considering that Warner Bros. owns the film rights to all DC Comics, as well as any sister corporations.

We'll see.

Watchmen : The Movie - My First Thoughts

I saw the trailer for the Watchmen movie when I went to see The Dark Knight. It looked okay, and was disappointed to re-discover that Zack "300" Snyder was directing it.

I'm not attacking 300, although I do feel that it is a massively over-rated film, but just don't care for this director. His motto seems to be 'style over substance'.

I'd never read Watchmen, although I'd passed it a million times in the bookstore. I finally bit and bought the book at Barnes and Noble.

It's a fantastic book, and I've been reading little bits and pieces of it at a time, really letting my brain absorb the material. The more and more I read, the more I realize that Zack Snyder is the worst possible choice to direct this. It isn't a comic book about action and special effects; it's a character driven mystery full of wit and social and superhero satire.

I think that, at this point, it's safe to say that Zack Snyder will just fuck it up.
